If not compliant: Appoint an EU AR immediately. This is the single most important requirement and the one most actively enforced by Amazon and Etsy.

Required for: Products covered by specific EU directives, including:
- Electronics and electrical equipment (Low Voltage Directive)

What it means: REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) restricts the use of hazardous substances in products sold in the EU. Key restrictions include:
- Nickel in jewellery and accessories (especially items in prolonged skin contact)
- Azo dyes in textiles and leather
- Lead, cadmium, and other heavy metals
- Phthalates in plastics and children's products
- Formaldehyde in textiles
How to check: Do you have test reports from an accredited laboratory confirming your products comply with REACH substance restrictions?
If not compliant: Commission REACH testing from an accredited laboratory. For fashion and jewellery sellers, this is particularly important.
✅ 4. Product Labelling Requirements
Required for: All products sold in the EU. Specific requirements vary by product category.
General labelling requirements under GPSR:
- EU Authorized Representative name and address
- Country of origin
- Product identification (model, batch, or serial number)

- Declaration of Conformity (for CE-marked products)
- Supplier and manufacturer information
- Instructions for use (where applicable)
How to check: Do you have a technical file for each product? Is it up to date? Can you provide it to EU authorities within a reasonable timeframe if requested?
If not compliant: Start building your technical file. For most products, this does not require expensive testing — a basic safety assessment and supplier documentation is sufficient.
✅ 6. Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
Required for: Products that require CE marking.
What it means: The Declaration of Conformity is a document in which you (or your EU AR) declare that your product meets all applicable EU requirements. It must include:
- Product identification (name, model, serial number)
- List of applicable EU directives and harmonised standards
- Name and address of the manufacturer and EU AR
- Signature of the responsible person
How to check: Do you have a signed DoC for each CE-marked product? Is it in the correct format and does it reference the correct directives?

Required for: Sellers on Amazon EU, Etsy, eBay, and other EU marketplaces.
Amazon requirements:
- Add a Responsible Person in Seller Central (Product Compliance section)
- Responsible Person details must appear on the product detail page

Etsy requirements:
- Add EU AR details to each listing (Product Safety section)
- EU AR details on product labels and packaging
Shopify requirements:

Common EU Compliance Mistakes
