Food contact materials (FCM) — including packaging, containers, utensils, and equipment that contact food — must comply with the EU Framework Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and applicable specific regulations. Plastics are covered by Regulation (EU) 10/2011. Ceramics by Directive 84/500/EEC. All FCMs must not transfer substances to food in quantities that could endanger human health or cause unacceptable changes in food composition.
